At Main Station Dental Care, your first visit is very comprehensive. We will first begin by gathering information and reviewing your health history. A panoramic x-ray will be taken, and a series of intraoral xrays. This allows the dentist to see abnormalities in your bone and jaw, view unerupted teeth such as wisdom teeth, locate infections, and identify tooth decay known as caries. The dental assistant will then take digital pictures of current restorations in your mouth and conditions of your teeth that we want you to be aware of. This is an excellent tool for you to visualize the current condition of your mouth. Then the dentist will do a comprehensive examination. This involves evaluating your bite, an oral cancer screening, a TMJ analysis, and educating you so that you have a clear understanding of your oral health. We might have you watch an educational video or give you brochures to take home that explain your oral findings. If you are scheduled for a hygiene appointment that day, you will then spend an hour with one of our very talented dental hygienists. She will take measurements of your gum tissue, and analyse the soft tissue and disease status of your mouth. The dentist and hygienist will determine the best treatment for your hygiene needs, which may involve more than one hygiene appointment.
